This year's prestigious Emerging Technologies Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS) goes to Karen Schomburg and Matthias Rarey in Hamburg. We extend our most cordial congratulations to our partners from the Center for Bioinformatics at Hamburg University.
The award appraises the development of the software SMARTSviewer which - for the first time ever - visually represents chemical patterns. Chemical patterns are generalizations of molecular (sub-)structures. They describe chemical situations in almost all areas of chemistry. SMARTSviewer is available on the Internet as a free web service, see http://smartsview.zbh.uni-hamburg.de.
